Ms. Susan Alvarez is in her 6th year as a lecturer at the Indiana University Department of Tourism, Conventions and Event Management. As a lecturer her focus is on teaching and advising students. Her classes include Introduction to Management, Introduction to Tourism Studies, Convention Sales and Services, Exhibition Marketing, Catering Management and the Catering Management Laboratory.
Ms. Alvarez’s background includes Travel Agency Sales, Travel Agency Management, Operations Management and Hotel Sales, and these are an integral part of what she brings to the classroom. In addition, her family business is running a small resort in Puerto Rico where she continues to work every summer. She is involved in all aspects of that business, including being the webmaster for their site.
Ms. Alvarez considers herself to be a “foodie” and is constantly integrating this concept into her classes, showcasing the intricate relationship between food and events of all types. She truly feels that food and Culinary Tourism has “come of age”, and is excited about all the opportunities it presents.
She is currently working on the revision of the Catering Management laboratory Class, as it begins its transition to the partnership with the Honeywell House, a Historic Bed & Breakfast in Indiana.
Ms. Alvarez is an active member in MPI as well as CHRIE.
